Talismanic Arts: Raw Materials & Process

My reawakening to talismanic medicine was a direct call from the Spirit world.   Brought about through a journey of radical initiation.  Years of teachings, trials and tests which you can read more about here.  The original talismanic devices I built were primal and raw; ritualized altars of Nature-based components.   Built in trance induced states of altered consciousness.  Birthed into being through a three stage ceremonial process: 1) raw material collection 2) talisman construction and 3) activation.

The original talismans I made were always built in Nature; from Nature.  Through an energetic transfer and dance directed by Otherworldly forces.  These devices took the form of altars constructed of Earthen materials including sticks, rocks, leaves, pinecones and feathers (among others).  After building each unit, I was always instructed to deconstruct the completed altar back to its component level.  I then put this collection of individual pieces in pouches for safe keeping.  I was told by my Otherworldly teachers that these were powerful, healing kits; medicine bundles of alchemized energy.  Eventually, I came to understand this truth.  Nature based talismanic medicine bundles are a core component of the Spirit medicine and energy clearing work I offer.  The picture to the right is an example of one of these primal, component level talismanic kits.

Following years of Otherworldly initiation through the Mystery School of Spirit Medicine, Elder Malidoma Some of the Dagara Tribe (Burkina Faso) became the first person to ever hold my talismanic devices.  Immediately upon coming into contact with them, he stated that the talismans I had cultivated carried transcendent, “through the roof,” Otherworldly energy.  He stated that he needed to put them down.  Because while holding them, he was leaving his body.  It was during this meeting that Elder Malidoma confirmed and blessed my calling and initiation into talismanic medicine.

Elder Malidoma prophetically shared that at some stage in my medicine journey, I would come across very specific components.  Horse hair and porcupine quills, among others.  And that when I did, I was to use these materials in the talismans I would build.  At the time, I did not understand how or when I would run into such items in the forests of the Pacific Northwest where I was living.  A few years later, however, it was all to make sense.  In 2021, I was humbled to study directly with Elder Malidoma.  And learned the talismanic tradition of the Dagara Tribe.   Just as he shared years earlier, I came to know and understand the  horse hair, porcupine quill and other sacred raw materials which Elder Malidoma told me would eventually become part of my talismanic medicine work.

The talismans I build today are reflections of all the teachings I received during my years of sacred instruction from the Otherworld.  Inside each unit I offer is a medicine bundle of alchemized components upgraded through a ritualized “medicine way” I was taught during my initiation.  With Elder Malidoma’s blessing, the talismans I provide for people combine materials from the Dagara tradition.  I am honored to fuse horse hair, porcupine quill, cowrie shell and leather binding as sacred talismanic materials.  As a reflection of love and honor for the ancient ways.  And in deepest humility and surrender to a vital truth which Elder Malidoma emphatically shared with me many years ago.  That elements woven into Dagara talismans were destined to become a part of the medicine I carry and share.
